Program Curriculum

Soul Care

Soul Care focuses on being companions to others on this journey. It emphasizes listening skills, drawing forth the wisdom of each other, the inner knowing of the Spirit within us. The participants’ foundations for journeying with others will be their ability to listen to others, to listen to their inner selves, and to listen to God in the context of their own lives, others’ lives and the community in which they live.

Sustaining Your Spiritual Passion

Sustaining Your Spiritual Passion focuses on developing a Christian hermeneutic to human life on earth, giving special attention to the formation, growth, and development of one’s new being in Christ through the presence and ministry of the Holy Spirit. It attempts to help participants flourish toward full maturity in all dimensions of life and become more Christ-like.

Spiritual Formation and Professional Development

Describes the dynamic process of growth and change in one’s spiritual development. This course will explore the nature of spiritual formation and its implications for ministry today. It takes a holistic approach to our well-being but takes into consideration differences in personalities and preferences.

Work, Calling, and Human Dignity (Theology of Work)

To integrate wholeness in work, life, relationships, and social impact, students need a core understanding of the purpose of work, their unique calling, and the meaning of human dignity. The approach taken is biblical, contextual, integrative, and theological.

Theology and Practice of Spiritual Direction

The spiritual director opens a place of hospitality for the pilgrim to explore and reflect on their relationship with God, others, and all of creation. The focus on spiritual direction is not counseling, pastoral care, or advice-giving, but rather helping pilgrims to become more aware of the mystery of God’s presence and action within their human experience and assisting them in making a fuller and freer response to it.

Engaging the University

What does it mean to engage the university? Why should we, as Christians, get involved in the life of the university? This module will help you start to answer these questions and give you a taste of how exciting it can be to find that God is already at work in the university.

Scripture Engagement

How would you describe Scripture engagement? What does it mean to engage with Scripture and with the God of Scripture? As we discover together what Scripture engagement is about, you may have questions about its importance in your life, the life of your Christian community, and the ministry of IFES. In this course, you will have the opportunity to explore your questions and find out more about others around the world.

Indigenous Support Development

The goal of this module is to strengthen our capacity to develop sustainable local support so that more resources are deployed across national movements in IFES.

Ministry Strategy and Impact

You’ll learn some key concepts and tools so that you can begin to monitor and evaluate student ministry. This module is about providing insight into student ministry through the process of monitoring and evaluation. You will discover the basic concepts and advantages of applying monitoring and evaluation in planning and implementing student ministry.

Governance Development

This course will help you learn how to write vision, mission, and core values statements for your national movement, and how to put those into a strategic plan is a crucial tool to help achieve the vision and mission of your national movement.
