ATS Extension Program


As a response to the growing need for ministerial equipping, certificate courses of Asian
Theological Seminary were designed to meet the training needs of pastors and church leaders
within their own location at the quickest possible time and at an economical cost. These 10-
module programs are designed with core and elective modules according to their respective
foci. These courses are suitable for local ministerial and pastoral fellowships, Christian
organizations, denominations, and ATS alumni chapter fellowships. Special arrangements can
be made for groups outside Metro Manila.

CERTIFICATE IN BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION


This certificate program seeks to develop the understanding and interpretation skills of pastors
and lay leaders through genre-based approach of studying the Bible. The program integrates
and nurtures the skills of the hand, the scholarship of the head and spirituality of the heart that
exemplifies the holistic training in interpretation.

CERTIFICATE IN BIBLICAL PREACHING


The certificate program seeks to develop the preaching skills of pastors and lay leaders by
offering modules that concentrate on preaching and the development of different types of
sermons as well as the delivery of the sermons to the public.

This certificate program is designed for pastors, lay leaders, and workers in the church,
community, non-government organizations and people who would like to gain basic
counseling competencies in their particular ministry contexts. The program integrates the
nurture of personal growth and wholeness in its training.

This program seeks to equip pastors and church leaders on the basic skills involved on pastoral
ministry such as preaching, teaching, counseling, administration, and personal soul care. The
programs employs a combination of lectures, group work, case studies, and individual inputs.

CERTIFICATE IN TRANSFORMATIONAL URBAN LEADERSHIP CTUL

Offered under the Strategic Leader Development ATS Extension Program
(SLDC-AEP), the Certificate in Transformational Urban Leadership (C-TUL) is designed to give
urban leaders the opportunity to complete a certificate program that will enable them to
transform low-income communities. The emphasis is on equipping for transformation. The
program combines community development-related skills with an emphasis on biblical
transformation. Students are exposed to the necessary theory components and also in testing
those theories in the practice of urban ministry.
C-TUL shall be offered to churches and NGOs alike for the benefit of their workers who are
already in the ministry and have limitations to acquire formal seminary education degrees.
This certificate program shall be composed of 10 modules (6 Core Modules, 4 Focus Electives Modules).
Each module shall run for 16 hours. This can run for four 4-hours sessions or two 8-hour
sessions. Lectures are minimized while workshop activities are highly encouraged.
CTUL courses will be taught by MATUL Alumni and/or professors.

CERTIFICATE IN EVANGELICAL SPIRITUALITY (G.DIP.E.S.)


The Certificate in Evangelical Spirituality is a non-degree interdisciplinary program of study
whose aim is to provide a basic introduction to the theology and practice of spirituality in the
Evangelical con-text. This program is intended for students who desire to be equipped in the
art and skill of spiritual formation and companioning in the context of their own local church or
Christian organization.
Those who complete the program will be able to:

  1. Develop a biblical and theological framework for the practice of a community-based ministry
    of spiritual formation and companioning within the Evangelical context.
  2. Nurture the attitude and practice of contemplative action in order to effect holistic
    transformation within one’s own social, political and cultural spheres of influence.
  3. Consistently model the disciplined and practical exercise of an internally formed biblical
    holiness.


All who take the program are required to complete a minimum of 10 modules. Each module is
16 hours long.
